The demand for a Vande Bharat connecting Agra to Banaras has been ongoing for a long time. The train will run six days a week, departing from Agra Cantt at 6 am and arriving in Banaras at 1 pm. The return journey departs from Banaras at 3.20 pm and arrives in Agra Cantt at 10.20 pm. The train will cover the distance between Agra Cantt and Banaras in seven hours, with stops at Tundla, Etawah, Kanpur Central, and Prayagraj. The Agra Cantt-Banaras Vande Bharat is the fourth Vande Bharat train in the Agra Rail Division and the 13th in Uttar Pradesh. Railway Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu stated that the government is working to provide affordable rail travel for passengers across India, with plans to introduce new Vande Metro and Amrit Bharat premium trains. This has led to negative sentiment towards the service. The Vande Bharat chair car can only travel eight hours one way, limiting potential routes. Furthermore, the service does not operate from midnight to 5 am. The cost of building an eight-coach Vande Bharat is Rs 52 crore, and these 16 idle trains represent an investment of over Rs 800 crore.
