Most routes do not need a VB train. Especially the 8 coacher ones. A 8 coach VB can easily be replaced with a 20 coach Jan Shatabdi/ICE with say, 6 AC coaches and rest dedicated to 2S/GN. That'll fulfill the needs of both air conditioned travellers, economy travellers and even last minute folks.
For eg, if Lucknow was connected via Varanasi to Patna via an Intercity train instead of VB, it would have been more convenient. People could have used it as an UP/DN train for going to/from AY-LKO as well. But...
more... being made a 8 coach VB, it denies lower and middle class people those needs. I would argue it doesn't even fulfill upper class people's needs since it goes via a slower route, the food is still bad and reaching PNBE post 2330 isn't exactly ideal.
