Its the base station to visit Jog falls or "Joga" as localites call. People here are bit tight in terms of speaking hindi but they easily understand english, specially the shop owners and bus conductors.
For visiting jog falls, you can also alight at SRF (sagara jambagaru). There is the bus depot of sagara very near to railway station.
From talguppa railway station, just come outside. And if you are alone or not in a group, then don't heed to the auto drivers and cab owners. Just move ahead 20 m straight,...
more... to the main road. there will be queue of KSRTC buses standing (which basically starts from sagara depot itself). All conductors would be shouting there destination. Just ask any one of them ,and he will guide you to the correct bus. If you don't find any bus at the road, then ask a small tea stall just beside you. They are a couple who sell nice and good tea, and many varieties of light snacks. They will tell you the exact time and bus.
From TGP to jog falls , it nearly takes 50 min. Buses will leave you just in front of jog falls main gate.
While returning, i would suggest to take bus to coastal karnataka i.e to honnavara or kumta. Jog falls to honnavar is nearly about 60 km via the dense forest and lush western ghat mountain. Direct buses go there. Even a direct bus fom sagara to panaji (goa) via kumta, karwar crosses jog falls at about 09:15 a.m.
Jog falls to panaji is 235 km and it takes 6.5 hr to reach.
But the initial route of 40-45 km from jog to honnavar is very very curvy and topsy. those who don't like ghat travels, don't go via this route. You will womit and feel dizziness, as many of my fellow passengers were doing especially ladies. the conductor laughed and told me, " Ye daily ka scene hai sir, idhar aisa hi chalti hai."
