Introduced as an intercity express between Bangalore and Coimbatore from 1st August 1997. From 1st July 2008, it was extended to Ernakulam.
Interestingly, according to the Lok Sabha debates, this train replaced a Bangalore-Coimbatore Shatabdi express that was running initially as a weekly and later as a tri-weekly. Apparently the Shatabdi was started in early 1997, but was replaced by the intercity within a few months of its inauguration.

This surprised me too. I am just digging up a few documents to see if I can find any mention of the Shatabdi. In the meanwhile you can see in these snippet searches that a Bangalore-Coimbatore Shatabdi is clearly mentioned.

The CBE- SBC ICE had RSA with a MAS - CBE ICE, that I can remember the TB. Those days I wasn't aware of RSA and used to wonder what the board meant.
Yes. I had travelled few times from CBE in SBC IC when it had RSA with MAS IC.
