The reason is plain in the open, visible to all but the employees: shape up or ship out. Too many PSUs utilize money as a greatest part of its resources to fund employees and ex employees. Too many employees don't work, fill in days and hope for pension/gratuity. India needs to weed out such employees and replace with those willing to work and contribute to India's growth. Just see BSNL -- they don't earn money to simply pay their employees their salary. Suppliers weren't paid for months. How good does BSNL seem to you? And how good does it serve you? What about its 1.3m non/under performing employees? Even if you don't use them, taxpayers pay them. Why waste money that can be put to better use? As a taxpayer, are you willing to pay salaries, pensions and pensions to their nominees for umpteen number of years for their none-worthy service...
