more... All installations will use the LTE (4G) network. Currently, tenders have been awarded for the Delhi-Mumbai and Delhi-Howrah corridors, covering approximately 3,000 kilometers. Preparatory work is underway for another 6,000 kilometers. The cost of installing Kavach is approximately ₹50 lakh per kilometer for trackside equipment and ₹70 lakh per locomotive. The budget allocated for Kavach in FY24 was ₹710 crore and ₹560 crore in the FY25 Interim Budget. The Eastern Railway has been implementing Kavach on the Howrah-Chhota Ambana section (260 kilometers). The North Western Railway has awarded tenders worth ₹426 crore for 1,600 kilometers. The South Central Railways already has Kavach installed on 1,465 kilometers. The first field trials of Kavach on passenger trains began in February 2016, and the system was adopted as a National ATP system in July 2020.
