The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) had stopped train services in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Services resumed in October 2020, but the NFR increased fares for ordinary passenger trains to three times the original price, equating them to express train fares. This move has been criticized by the Assam...

Sanmilita Mahasangha, who allege it is exploiting the public. The NFR justified the fare hike by citing a directive issued by Vivek Kumar Sinha, the Additional General Manager (Coaching) of the Railway Board, on October 20, 2020. This directive, numbered 2020/CHG 30/3 PT, declared the upgrade of eight ordinary passenger trains in Assam to express train category. This resulted in a three-fold fare increase that continues to this day. The eight trains involved are: 1. 55901/02 Lamding-Tinsukia Passenger, 2. 55813/14 Dekargaon-Murkongselek Passenger, 3. 55713/14 New Jalpaiguri-Rangiya Passenger, 4. 55753/54 Alipurduar-Guwahati Passenger, 5. 55811/12 Dhubri-Kamakhya Passenger, 6. 55895/96 Rangiya-Murkongselek Passenger, 7. 55615/16 Guwahati-Silchar Passenger, and 8. 55663/64 Agartala-Silchar Passenger. The fare hike and the discontinuation of train services at some smaller stations have caused inconvenience to passengers. However, there is positive news: the Southern Railway has reversed the Railway Board’s decision and announced that 140 trains will be reinstated to passenger category with a minimum fare of ₹10 starting from July 1st. Previously, the fare increase had raised the minimum fare for these trains to ₹30. The Assam Sanmilita Mahasangha has demanded the NFR to follow suit and reinstate the eight trains to passenger category and reduce the minimum fare to ₹10. They have also demanded the repair or replacement of damaged coaches, toilets, doors, windows, fans, lights, and seats on these trains. They highlight the poor condition of passenger and express trains in the Northeast Frontier Railway compared to other parts of India.

Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) ne COVID-19 pandemic ke wajah se March 2020 mein train services band kar di thi. October 2020 mein services shuru hui, lekin NFR ne saadhe mein saadhe common passenger train ke fares ko teeno guna badha kar express train fares ke barabar kar diya. Assam Sanmilita Mahasangha...

ne is move ko criticize kiya aur yeh allegation lagaaya ki NFR public ko exploit kar raha hai. NFR ne yeh fare hike Railway Board ke Additional General Manager (Coaching) Vivek Kumar Sinha ke 20 October 2020 ke directive ko reference diya. Is directive, jiska number 2020/CHG 30/3 PT tha, ne Assam mein aath common passenger trains ko express train category mein upgrade karne ka declaration kiya. Isse train ki fare teen guna badh gayi aur yeh aaj bhi jaari hai. Yeh aath trains hain: 1. 55901/02 Lamding-Tinsukia Passenger, 2. 55813/14 Dekargaon-Murkongselek Passenger, 3. 55713/14 New Jalpaiguri-Rangiya Passenger, 4. 55753/54 Alipurduar-Guwahati Passenger, 5. 55811/12 Dhubri-Kamakhya Passenger, 6. 55895/96 Rangiya-Murkongselek Passenger, 7. 55615/16 Guwahati-Silchar Passenger, and 8. 55663/64 Agartala-Silchar Passenger.
