Plan for 15-car trains on Churchgate-Andheri slow route scrapped

Western Railway (WR) has canceled plans to introduce 15-car trains on the Churchgate-Andheri slow route due to technical challenges. A feasibility study revealed that platform extensions are not feasible and would require extensive network modifications, including shifting signal poles, tracks, points, and other infrastructure. WR is focusing on alternative solutions like...

adding fifth and sixth rail lines, segregating long-distance trains from suburban ones, and extending the harbor line to Borivali to accommodate future demand. Currently, WR operates 15-car trains between Andheri and Virar on the slow line and on the fast line between Churchgate and Virar. The introduction of 15-car trains on the slow line between Andheri and Virar in December 2021 required ₹70 crore for extending platforms at 14 stations. 15-car trains on the Dadar-Churchgate route have limited halts due to shorter platforms. WR first introduced 15-car services on its fast corridor between Dadar and Virar in 2009, extending them to Churchgate in 2011 after platform extensions.

Feasibility study mein pata chala ki platforms ko extend karna feasible nahi hai aur yeh bahut saara network ka kaam chahiega, jaise signal poles, tracks, points,...

aur aur bhi bahut kuchh shift karna padega.

This had to happen since there is very less space available at many locations to increase the platform length.

BCT BVI 6th line is already scrapped, there is no space between Dadar and Bandra, mainly due to encroachments
