Previously, only one train, originating from Kolkata, served this route, often being fully booked, making it challenging for Gorakhpur passengers to secure berths. The NER's ability to control the timing of trains on this route is facilitated by the newly opened Pilibhit-Shahgarh route, as the Northern Railway had previously denied path access due to route congestion. The special train service will operate on Thursdays and Saturdays until June 27th and June 29th respectively. Train number 05060 departs Lalkuan at 2:00 PM and arrives in Gorakhpur at 2:15 AM, then departs Gorakhpur at 9:30 PM to arrive in Howrah. Train number 05059 departs Howrah at 11:30 PM and arrives in Gorakhpur at 10:00 PM the next day, and then departs Gorakhpur at 1:55 PM to reach Lalkuan the next day.

Additionally, the Railway is operating a summer special train (05005-05006) from Gorakhpur to Amritsar. The train will run every Wednesday from Gorakhpur from April 24th to June 26th and every Thursday from Amritsar from April 25th to June 27th. Further, the North Railway will run a summer special train from Guwahati to Jammu Tawi via Bareilly, operating every Monday and Thursday from May 6th to July 4th.
