664 करोड़ रुपये खर्च होने के बाद भी इस रूट पर मेमू ट्रेन नहीं चलाई जा रही है। ऐसे में लोग 90 किलोमीटर की दूरी ज्यादा तय करने को मजबूर हैं। बरकाकाना रूट से छह घंटे 22 मिनट का सफर करके रांची से गढ़वा रोड (335 किलोमीटर) जाना पड़ रहा है। वहीं, यात्रियों को अधिक किराया भी देना पड़ रहा है। टोरी होते हुए गढ़वा रोड रूट में सिर्फ तीन ट्रेनों का संचालन हो रहा है: रांची-चोपन एक्सप्रेस (सप्ताह में तीन दिन), सासाराम एक्सप्रेस (सप्ताह में छह दिन) और रांची-नई दिल्ली राजधानी ट्रेन (सप्ताह में दो दिन)। अधर, यात्री संघ और स्थानीय सांसद भी लगातार इस रूट में ट्रेनों की संख्या बढ़ाने की मांग कर रहे हैं।

बहुत ही उचित मांग है. पलामू प्रमंडल की जनता के लिये यह बहुत ही लाभदायक होगा. सभी जनप्रतिनिधियों से अनुरोध है की इस मांग को जल्द से जल्द पूरा कराने का प्रयास किया जाए. इसके साथ साथ रांची लोहरदगा टोरी रेल लाइन का दोहरीकरण भी जल्द से जल्द किया जाए.

महिलाएं और दो पुरुष शामिल थे। मृतकों में से एक 72 वर्षीय नंदलाल शुक्ला, पलामू निवासी और दूसरी बिहार निवासी मंजू देवी हैं। दो अन्य मृतकों की पहचान नहीं हो सकी है। कई यात्री घायल हुए हैं और उनका लातेहार में इलाज चल रहा है। इस हादसे के बाद बरकाकाना-बरवाडीह रेललाइन पर लगभग दो घंटे तक यातायात बाधित रहा। रात लगभग 10 बजे रेल परिचालन सामान्य हुआ।
