Sijua on the DHN-KTH-CRP sub-section on the CIC line is a great place for railfanning. Trains here travel at a very low MPS, due to underground fire. This section was founded during colonial times in 1880, and in that way it precedes the Grand Chord, which was built in 1903.
At 1880 the Dhanbad-Jharia & the DHN-KTH-PLJE section was built and the tracks were laid down for the purpose of loading coal.Jharia and Katras in those days were tiny kingdoms, while Dhanbad was a small village. The coal in Jharia and Katras were the very best in the country, and as such the British made a deal with the local rulers to

construct a railway line to Jharia & Katras. Sitting prettily in between Katras & Jharia, this small village Dhanbad was chosen as the terminus for this two lines. However there was a requirement for the construction of a Loco Tank for watering the engines, as well a loco shed for maintainance of the locos. The nearest loco shed, the then 'East Indian Railways' largest was at Sitarampur with which Dhanbad had no rail link. This was because the Damodar was then the 'Sorrow of Bengal'. Every year it flooded and caused the deaths of thousands. Even the british had tried for several years to built a bridge, but the monsoon flooding would undo every progess they made. And as such there were rail lines which terminated at Barakar. But with the discovery of rich coal areas, the british wanted them to be directly connected with the industrial heartlands of Calcutta.
This is how a small unknown village, by virtue of it's sheer luck happened to become a not only a railway terminus, but also housed 'EIR's' largest loco tank as well as largest loco shed!
After the completion of this route, the british suddenly realised that if they they laid a railway tracks from Howrah to Gaya to 'Moghulsarai' (The British name for now Mughalsarai), they happened to reduce the distance from Calcutta to Delhi even further. The Brits toiled for years and bridges were laid across the Damodar, the Phalgow and the '5km streching' Sone!
Tunnels were laid across the Gurpa & Gajhandi forrests, and curves bulit to counter the steep gradient change as the Chotanagpur Plateau receded. Finally with much fanfare Lord Minto innargurated the Grand Chord in 1906,at Gajhandi. Meanwhile the British had extended the DHN-PLJE all the way to Madhya Pradesh, and named it as the CIC section.
With the completion of the Grand Chord however, Dhanbad was connected to Calcutta as well and Delhi directly and as such, in a small space of time became a important junction on the Grand Chord. It became the center of Coal-Loading and passenger travel, as both Jharia and Katras lost their past influences, somewhat.
Within a space of 100 years a small unknown village has become a thriving industrial city! And all this started because of this two railway lines!
It is sad that both these railway lines hav had to become victims of Underground Fires, caused by pure negligence!
While the Dhanbad-Jharia line is already history, the DHN-PLJE section is counting it's last breaths! Alternate routes are being planned, and soon this line will fade into Oblivion.....................................
Coming back to the present. It was a hot sunny afternoon and myself and my friend found ourselves at Sijua station waiting to catch the Jhargram-Dhanbad MEMU to Dhanbad.
While standing the overhead bridges, we spotted three trains in the space of 1 hours. We spotted two WAM-4s, 2 WAG-9s, a WAG-7, and the MEMU itself!
However as a tribute to the WAM-4, the 'Rahul Dravid of Indian Railways', for it's selfless 40 years of service, we clicked the pictures of the two WAM-4s only!
Picture 1-5 shows MGS WAM-4 bring in the DHN-CRP passenger.
Picture 6 shows TATA WAM-4 speed by with the marathon runner ALLP-DHN Express.
Hope you enjoyed this railfanning report, I added a touch of the history of the CIC section as well!

Great Great
Presenting a few snaps of Sijua station captured during the Puja holidays.
Sijua was a very important station on the now abadoned Dhanbad-Chandrapura railway line. From Dhanbad to Sijua the Dc line was a bidirectional FEDL, barring a small section between Kusunda and Basseria Block Halt, from Sijua onwards it used to be bidrectional FESL towards Katrasgarh side!
Note that the signs of inactivity are clearly showing.
The

entire premise now lies abandoned and desolate, what was once abuzz with life with the cachophony of trains and passengers alive now lies like a ghost station!
Even the station staff have been transferred and barring a isolated cow, no living beings can usually be spotted anywhere in the vicinity of this once lively station............
Anyways the OHE are still energised, the signals still active and an ocassional freight train still uses this line......
Hope you guys enjoy and appreciate the pictures!
Camera used :- Samsung Galaxy Core Prime
Station tagged :- Sijua SJA, Dhanbad DHN, Katrasgarh KTH and Chandrapura CRP
Picture 1 :- Tracks going towards Katrasgrah side
Picture 2& 3 :- Overlooking platform number 1 & 2
Picture 4,5 & 6 :- The once active lines that would shine are now covered up in rust!
Picture 7 :- Main building
Picture 8 :- Railway overbridge
Picture 9 :- Again rust covered lines.
Pictured in 10-15 :- An ancient weighing machine dating back to the British rule giving an idea of the historical importance of this line. You will also notice the bell and gong for notifying the arrival and departure timings of the trains. The timetable notifying the arrival and departure timings of now closed DHN-CRP , DHN-MURI & DHN-JGM MEMU! Also shown is the fare chart and some motivational quotations.
Picture 16 :- The now abadoned Porter Goomty.
Picture 17 :- Another shot of the rusted lines.....................
P.S :- A simple look at this stations is enough to guess how Indian railways were during British times! Visting this stations are a step taken back in history as the entire station complex is of British build and has undergone very little change over time!
If only IR turned this fantastic station buildings into railway museums as they are definitely worth preserving!
Finally, Rest in Peace, DC Line, Thee served well!

SECR fever spreading fast in CKP division!
18019 dragged hard from Rakha Mines. Passengers were even requested to continue their journey by bus when reaching Purulia more than 2 hrs late. The MEMU is yet to make upto Dhanbad. Good Luck 18020!
18011 probably took a mini nap at Sini, forgetting that it has to do a round trip to Tatanagar before heading for return journey. Passengers of both 18012 and 18014 will have a long night waiting at station today.

I was to travel from CKP to Tata for my sister's exam, BSP-Tata exp was standing at CKP around 9 in the morning, Gitanjali was suppose to some around 10am. Some people boarded the BSP exp, and it left CKP around 9:10. I took a risk and waited for Gitanjali with SF general tickets we boarded Gitanjali around 10 and overtook BSP-Tata exp in the very next station Barabambo, in one hour it moved 10 km, that too now it's exp.
I kept checking the status it reached RKSN in 1.5 hr and Tata in 3 hours.

the time another story happened, TTE came and asked me why didn't I board the Gen coach!! I told him you run the trains in time, I will reserve tickets in AC to travel to Tata from CKP, but I cannot reserve ticket to travel just 60km without knowing any timetable of trains... He told me that trains will never run on time again... He took out the fine book and was checking the rates of fine amount, I asked him why only you are doing your work sincerely, when all your colleagues are not.. He told why are you telling me.. I will run the train on time Or what.. I told him the brand for which you are working you will have to take the responsibility.. He told there are proper channels to complain... I took out the mobile and showed them the list of tweets I do regularly with PNR numbers also... Then he asked what for you are travelling, I told I have got my sister's exam.. Then he returned the ticket and went away... Gitanjali reached me Tata around 11:30, it's ok nowadays SF trains taking 1.5 hrs.. between CKP and Tata.

Situation is very grave. Railway Board is simply quiet. They only care about loading targets. Punctuality record has gone missing for years.

Passenger train punctuality is very very poor almost all over IR in last 1 year after COVID. Freight train punctuality have improve and they get 1st priority over passenger carrying trains. Only freight loading is the target of RB. In SER situation is very bad, almost all trains be it Exp, Pgr, Premium or EMU/MEMU all r running late everyday.
