Karnataka Minister Gundu Rao opposes extension of Bengaluru-Kannur train up to Kozhikode

Karnataka Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao has opposed the extension of the Bengaluru-Kannur express train service to Kozhikode, Kerala. In a letter to Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, he argued that the extension would negatively impact commuters on the existing Bengaluru-Kannur route. The train, running as 16511 and 16512, is the only...

overnight express between Bengaluru and Kannur via Mangalore and is always full. Extending the service to Kozhikode, which is already well-connected to Bengaluru by other trains, would create additional demand for seats, making it difficult for Karnataka passengers to secure them. Rao pointed out that the extension would also reduce the availability of reserved berths on the train as unreserved coaches would be occupied by passengers travelling between Kannur and Kozhikode. He requested the Railway Ministry to reconsider the extension and retain the existing train services.

Karnataka Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao ne Bengaluru-Kannur express train service ko Kozhikode, Kerala tak extend karne ka virodh kiya hai. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw ko likhe gaye ek letter mein, unhone argument kiya ki extension se Bengaluru-Kannur route ke commuters par negative impact padega. Train, 16511 aur 16512 ke roop...

mein chalti hai, Bengaluru aur Kannur ke beech Mangalore se hoti hui ekmaatr overnight express hai aur yeh hamesha full hoti hai.
‘No logic in extending Bengaluru-Kannur train to Kozhikode’: Karnataka Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao writes to Centre

Karnataka Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao has requested the Indian Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to reconsider the decision to extend the Bengaluru-Kannur train service to Kozhikode in Kerala. Rao argues that extending the service will create additional demand, making it difficult for passengers from Mangalore to get seats on the already...

full train. He believes this extension is illogical and potentially motivated by ‘oblique interests’. He points out that Kozhikode is already well-connected by train to Bangalore, and that the extension will likely lead to passengers switching from other trains to the extended service. Rao also highlights the Railway Board's inconsistent approach by accommodating requests from other states while denying Karnataka's request to extend the Vande Bharat Express to Mangaluru.

Karnataka ke Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao ne Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw se Bengaluru-Kannur train service ko Kerala ke Kozhikode tak extend karne ke decision ko reconsider karne ka request kiya hai. already full train mein seats milna mushkil ho jayega.

Setback for Karnataka passengers as Bengaluru-Kannur overnight express gets extended to Kozhikode

The Karnataka Coast passengers are facing a setback as the KSR Bengaluru-Kannur train (No. 16511/16512) has been extended to Kozhikode. This extension is causing concern for coastal residents as it will reduce berth and seat availability on the train. The railway ministry's order came as a surprise, particularly since Minister Ashwini...

Vaishnaw had reportedly assured Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel that the train would not be extended. The train initially ran between Yeshwantpur and Mangaluru Central before being extended to Kannur in 2009. The extension to Kozhikode will occur under the existing timetable, with Train No. 16511 reaching Kozhikode at 12:40 PM and Train No. 16512 departing at 3:30 PM. Passengers have voiced their concerns on social media, highlighting that Kozhikode is already connected to Bengaluru through other trains and the extension will further reduce the limited seat availability for Karnataka Coast residents. They fear that unreserved coaches will fill up before the train reaches Mangaluru, leading to difficulties for coastal passengers.

Karnataka Coast ke passengers ke liye ek badha news hai, KSR Bengaluru-Kannur train (No. 16511/16512) ko Kozhikode tak extend kar diya gaya hai. Is extension se coastal logon ke liye train mein berth aur seat availability kam ho jaayegi, yeh unke liye ek problem hai. Railway ministry ka order ek surprise...

tha, khass karke is baat ko dekhte hue ki Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw ne reportedly Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel ko assurance di thi ki train ko Kozhikode tak extend nahi kiya jaayega. Train pehle Yeshwantpur aur Mangaluru Central ke beech chalti thi, phir 2009 mein isko Kannur tak extend kiya gaya tha. Kozhikode tak extension existing timetable ke under hoga, Train No. 16511 Kozhikode pe 12:40 PM pe pahunchega aur Train No. 16512 3:30 PM pe wahan se chalega. Passengers ne social media pe apni chinta express ki hai, unhone bataaya hai ki Kozhikode pehle se hi Bengaluru se other trains se connected hai aur is extension se Karnataka Coast ke residents ke liye already kam seat availability aur bhi kam ho jaayegi. Unhe dar hai ki unreserved coaches Mangaluru pahunchne se pehle hi bhar jaayenge, jisse coastal passengers ko pareshani ho sakti hai.

How many times you have travelled from/ to MAJN? You seem to claim that MAJN is a fantastic station.
Nothing prevents SR PGT to introduce a new train from anywhere in Kerala to Bangalore via Hassan. But spoiling the only night train connecting Mangalore with it's state capital is not acceptable.

Majn is at padil near arterial manglore banglore highway and is well connected. For people from bantwal puttur region it is more accessible than maq.

All trains towards Hassan stop at Bantwal and Puttur. So why public from those places will travel to MAJN to board trains?
Something wrong with your analysis. How many times you have travelled from/ to MAJN?

I was refering in general. All I was talking that majn is at great location for a satellite station, unlike KCVL for TVC which is less accessible. MAJN certainly needs more development.

I worked there till 2 years back.

Bengaluru-Mangaluru overnight express gets extended for the second time, from Kannur to Kozhikode

The Indian Railway Ministry has approved the extension of the Bengaluru-Kannur-Bengaluru overnight express (Train No. 16511/512) to Kozhikode, Kerala. with stops at Thalassery, Vadakara, and Quilandi. The return train (No. 16512) leaves Kozhikode at 3:30 PM. This extension is the second time the train's route has been expanded in Kerala. It was first extended to Kannur in 2009. The decision to extend the train to Kozhikode despite previous promises not to do so has drawn criticism from various groups and individuals, who highlight the lack of dedicated seat quotas for passengers from coastal Karnataka.

Indian Railway Ministry ne Bengaluru-Kannur-Bengaluru overnight express (Train No. 16511/512) ko Kozhikode, Kerala tak extend karne ka approval de diya hai.
