Kantabaji Steel Express, and a freight train were approaching each other when the drivers saw each other and applied brakes. The sudden braking caused panic among the passengers of the Steel Express, which was traveling at 130 km/h. The train was close to the freight train, only 100 meters away, when it stopped. Had the train not stopped in time, a major accident could have occurred. The freight train was moved back after a delay, and the Steel Express was allowed to proceed to Chakradharpur. No officials were willing to comment on the incident. However, sources suggest that the accident may have occurred due to a malfunction in the auto signal system.
