Yes, this and some more has come in a Silchar newspaper, Jugasankha.
But I don't consider this to be a joke unless somebody feels NE shouldn't get its due.
Here are the facts:
1. Silchar is the second largest city of Assam
2....
more... Silchar is the centre for a large area of Mizoram and Manipur
3. there are several daily flights between Silchar and Guwahati and Silchar and Kolkata
Now there were 2 daily trains from Silchar to Guwahati in the 1980s when MG services to Ghy stopped. With rise in population and more movement of people for education and business 4 daily trains could be appropriate. Some may be Inter City, some Jananshatabdi and the like.
2 trains to Kolkata is not inappropriate either given the daily flights. On ecould be Super fast and another an Express train. That's what the report says.
Now Rajdhani express is a political decision. But Weekly Ac Express to NDLS is certainly appropriate.
There is already talk about direct flights to Delhi for quite some time.
Silchar's comparable city in Bangladesh that is actually just 100 kms away, Sylhet, is an international airport.
I don't see anything unusual in the proposals in the newspaper report.
I would consider the reactions in this forum to be a joke and a reflection of inadequate knowledge about NE's geography and people.
