1408 paxs were caught without ticket at Shahdara railway station during the checking of only 3 trains coming from Shamli to Old Delhi. Out of these 1263 paid 5,95,478/- as fine and 145 produced before Magistrate!
It works out to be about 300 paxs per train at just one station i.e. Shahdara!!!
and many more WT pax on these 3 trains would have got down at other stations also who went scot free.
If...
more... we consider 50% of pax were caught at just single station Shahdara total WT pax who travelled in a the train is 600
What should be the number of without ticket passengers in several thousand trains at several thousand stations on the IR network? These figures are mind boggling and may be in several millions! And revenue loss may be several Crores per day
If we consider only 50% of WT pax boarding the train were caught at just single station Shahdara total WT pax who travelled in a the train is 600.
For 13000 trains operating per day on IR network the no of WT pax=13000x600=78 lacs
@ Rs 45 per pax (avg revenue earned per pax by IR) daily loss= 78lacs x 45= 39 crores per day=13000 crores per annum!
This could cover makeup for over 40 % of total losses due to pax trains!

More than 90% of the without ticket travellers are so because they believe or understand that they can easily get ways with offence
They shall start buying tickets if proper checks are conducted and foolproof arrangement is done at the Rly stations to nab such paxs.
A few % of the culprits may be hardcore, who need to be controlled through punitive measures.
