* It is better if IR increase efficiency without privatisation. But it is not happening since last 7 decades of independence. In fact political interference in IR continuously increasing and market share of IR is continuously falling since independence, with continuous erosion of ethics & morals of governments. Since 1950 share of rail traffic has fallen from 89% to 25-30% (freight) & 75% to 15-20% (passenger).
* Efficient Rail transport is absolutly essential requirement for our country to grow and prosper. Development of country cannot be held-up just to provide Govt. employment to about 10 lac people. * Air traffic and connectivity has developed leap and bounds after it was opened to private sector. More over telecom sector, Power generation, etc have also made unprecedented developments after it was opened to private sector. Every time there were apprehensions from sections of public/intellectuals, but at the end people, government and country, all have benefited dur to increase in efficiency after private sector was involved.
* Privatisation of Rly has to be done properly by allowing private sector also and by nurturing genuine competition by providing level playing field to all the players including IR.
