between Rishikesh and Karnprayag, is nearly complete. This segment includes 17 tunnels, with the longest being 15 km long, making it the longest rail tunnel in India. Construction utilizes technology similar to that employed in the Swiss and Austrian Alps. The completed line will reduce travel time between Rishikesh and Karnprayag to just 1.5 to 2 hours, allowing pilgrims to complete their Char Dham Yatra in 4 to 5 days instead of the previous 15 days. The project's total cost is estimated at INR 16,216 crore, with 105 km of the line running through tunnels. The project is expected to significantly enhance connectivity and accessibility to the Char Dham pilgrimage sites.
