North Chennai, home to workers, poorly linked by suburban trainsPremium

North Chennai, despite having a large working-class population and industrial belt, suffers from a poor public transport system, particularly suburban train services. The frequency of suburban train services in North Chennai is significantly lower than in other sections of the city, despite the high population density and reliance on this mode...

of transport. While Southern Railway has developed a robust track network, congestion caused by freight trains from the Kamarajar port limits the number of train services in the north Chennai corridor. Currently, suburban trains to Gummidipoondi and Sulurpetta are operated from Moore Market Complex and Beach stations. There is a demand from commuters to separate the operation of north-bound suburban trains from the Moore Market Complex station to improve efficiency and reduce congestion. Shifting these services to Beach station could create greater flexibility in operating trains between Gummidipoondi, Chengalpattu, and Kancheepuram. The completion of the fourth line between Egmore and Beach, aimed at enhancing infrastructure and increasing the frequency of long-distance and freight trains, is expected to contribute to better connectivity in the region. The project, costing ₹274.20 crore, began in September 2023 and is slated to be completed in August 2024.

North Chennai mein, bahut saare working class logon aur industrial belt hone ke baavajood, public transport system, khass karke suburban train services bahut kharab hain. North Chennai mein suburban train services ki frequency city ke dusre sections se bahut kam hai, iske baavajood yahaan logon ki population bahut zyada hai aur...

unki is transport system par dependancy bhi zyada hai. Southern Railway ne ek acha track network banaya hai, par Kamarajar port se aane waale freight trains ki wajah se congestion ki wajah se, north Chennai corridor mein train services ki sankhya kam hai. Is waqt, Gummidipoondi aur Sulurpetta jaane wali suburban trains, Moore Market Complex aur Beach stations se chalti hain. Commuters chahte hain ki north-bound suburban trains ki operation ko Moore Market Complex station se alag kiya jaaye, taaki efficiency badh sake aur congestion kam ho sake. In services ko Beach station par shift karne se Gummidipoondi, Chengalpattu aur Kancheepuram ke beech train operate karne mein zyada flexibility aayegi. Egmore aur Beach ke beech fourth line ka kaam khatam hone par, jiska maksad infrastructure ko enhance karna aur long-distance aur freight trains ki frequency badhana hai, isse region mein better connectivity aane ki ummeed hai. Project ki cost ₹274.20 crore hai aur ye September 2023 mein start hua aur August 2024 mein complete hone wala hai.

These days, every other day, we are getting requests from members to allow email login to their FB-based IRI account. 10 years ago, we had given the option for users to login through FaceBook - in retrospect, this was a mistake. These days, apparently, users are quitting FaceBook in droves because...
