Kerala even committed to bearing 50% of the project cost. However, the central government and the Railway Ministry have shown a lack of commitment and delayed the project, leading to a significant increase in the estimated cost from INR 2815 crore to INR 3811 crore (a 36% increase). The central government is now attempting to burden Kerala with this increased cost. The Chief Minister clarifies that Kerala does not oppose the new Chengannur-Pamba line but that the central government has not yet made any requests to the state regarding this project. The central government also failed to allocate funds in the recent budget for Kerala's ongoing railway projects, including Thalassery-Nanjangode, Nilambur-Mysore, and Angamali-Sabari. The Chief Minister accuses the Union Railway Minister of spreading misinformation by claiming that funds were allocated for the Angamali-Sabari line but were not utilized by Kerala.
