Varanasi saw 500 temples submerged in the Ganges, with waterlogging in the streets. Later in the evening, Sitapur and Lakhimpur also experienced significant rainfall. The weather department has issued a heavy rainfall alert for 27 districts, with similar conditions expected to persist till August 16th. The rainfall recorded in the past 24 hours was 11.2 mm, 58% above the normal level. Barabanki witnessed the highest rainfall at 61 mm. While the total rainfall from June 1st to August 11th stands at 383.1 mm, it's 10% below the normal average. Professor Manoj Srivastava, a meteorologist at BHU, stated that there is a high possibility of further rainfall, potentially leading to a rise in the Ganga's water levels. He also mentioned that the current flood situation, though arriving earlier than usual, is due to heavy rainfall in the Himalayas.
