passenger trains were affected, with many having their routes changed. The incident resulted in significant financial losses for the Jabalpur railway division. A passenger train, 09060, with around 1500 passengers on board was approaching the derailment site when its locomotive driver, Sunil Shrivastava, noticed the damage and, anticipating a major accident, applied the emergency brakes. The locomotive driver and his assistant, Uday Raj, were later commended for their vigilance. The train was brought to a halt just 300 meters before the derailed engine. A J-grade investigation committee has been formed to determine the cause of the incident, which is suspected to be a defect in the rail joint. The initial investigation points to negligence in track maintenance, with reports suggesting that millions of rupees have been spent on paper for track maintenance without actual repairs.
