#story of loco pilot's son :
A very rare incident
happened during
convocation 2013 of
IIT Bombay. Akshay
Dhoke’s
...
degree was
received by his father
Siddharth Dhoke . You
might be thinking that
what’s uncommon
here. Very first time in
history, institute like
IITs have awarded
degree to any student
after death when he
didn’t appear for final
semester exams.
A brief about Akshay
Dhoke:
Akshay, a Nagpur
topper in class 10th
and 12th, was ranked
among the top 200
aspirants in the JEE. A
great fan of Rahul
Dravid, he also helmed
Nagpur cricket team to
state level.
Akshay got admission
in the prestigious
Indian Institute of
Technology, Powai in
2009. He was a
student of M Tech in
Electrical Engineering
(dual degree) with
speciality in
Microelectronics. He
was a top scorer there
too. His teachers were
happy with his
academic excellence
and his good natured
conductr too. Soon he
became the blue-eyed
boy in the college.
When he entered in his
final year in the year
2011, he fell ill. His
platelate count came
down to 09. The
related tests confirmed
that he was suffering
from blood cancer. He
was advised Bone
Marrow Transplant
(BMT)
Unfortunately, Akshay
succumbed to his
illness on September
14th, 2012.
His story compelled
the institute to make
an exception
Akshay was a topper
throughout his life and
he fighted with his
death till his last
breath.
“I don’t want to caste
an aspersion on the
doctors at Tata
Memorial Cancer
Hospital where he was
being treated, but
Akshay told doctors
some things about his
disease and humbly
suggested some mode
of treatment but they
did not pay attention
to him. They ignored
him and said that he
was an engineering
student and could not
know the medical
aspect. I personally
feel that Akshay was
sensible and his
grasping power was
tremendous. But I do
not want to blame
anybody. I think
Akshay lived a life
worth living. We are
happy with his stint in
this world,” said his
father Siddharth
Dhoke.
His extraordinary story
compelled institute to
make an exception. His
father, Siddharth
Dhoke, a loco-pilot
with Central Railways,
recieved his dual
degree with moist eyes.
Siddharth Dhoke
accepted the degree at
the hands of Abhay
Karandikar, Professor
and Head of
Department of
Electrical Engineering

These days, every other day, we are getting requests from members to allow email login to their FB-based IRI account. 10 years ago, we had given the option for users to login through FaceBook - in retrospect, this was a mistake. These days, apparently, users are quitting FaceBook in droves because...
