Grievance Description : Subject: Effective Utilization of Train No-12283/12284 Ernakulam-Nizamuddin-Ernakulam Duronto Express The Ernakulam-Nizamuddin-Ernakulam Duronto Express (12283/12284) runs between Ernakulam (Kerala) and Nizamuddin (Delhi) and vice versa. This train provides end to end connectivity from Ernakulam to Delhi with a few technical halts in between namely Calicut, Mangalore, Madgaon, Panvel, Baroda, Kota. Based on its coach composition, at a given point of time, it can carry approximately 750 passengers. From the time this train has been started, it has been seen that the train is not running as per its potential capacity. The occupancy rate seems to be quite low and generally lots of seats are found vacant excepting maybe during the vacation/holiday season .Since it is a train catering to end to end passengers, it is generally difficult to expect about 750 passengers on a single day to board this train from Ernakulam to Nizamuddin. The reason other Delhi bound trains from Ernakulam run on high waitlists is due to the fact that they carry passengers from intermediate stations also. It would be really good if the train can be converted to a superfast train and all the technical stops that this train currently has, be converted to commercial halts (Calicut, Mangalore, Madgaon, Panvel, Baroda, Kota). This can be tried out on an experimental basis .This will then be really helpful as it can become an additional option for passengers wanting to travel in other sectors mainly Ernakulam-Panvel, Ernakulam-Mangalore, Ernakualm-Baroda, Mangalore-Delhi, Madgaon-Delhi, Panvel-Delhi. The additional commercial stops will not only reduce waitlists and heavy rush in other trains on this route but will also increase occupancy in this train and ensure better berths utilisation and thus improve passenger convenience and also overall increase in revenues for the railways. The current passenger traffic trend of this train between Ernakulam-Delhi from the time of its inaugural run must already be available with the railways hence it will be a good data to accordingly fix subsequent quota for the entire route. The train in any case does have a stop at these technical halts hence regularizing the same will not affect the timings of the train at all. It can still continue to run with the existing timings. Thus conversion of technical halts into commercial halts, without any change in timings will definitely be a bonus for hundreds of passengers in getting an additional option for travel and also for the railways in realizing revenues. Kindly give a thought to this suggestion and look forward to a positive response from your end.
