I think track doubling needs to be done b/w LALKUAN(LKU) and Kathgodam (24km) only..... reasons:
1. LKU junction for TRAINS from DLI/MB and BE/LKO... both single tracks converge at Lalkuan Jn.
2. Between LKU and HDW(Haldwani) ... 16 km single line with NO INTERMEDIATE HALT to facilitiate trains passing/crossing... the terrain is bit slopy and MPH is max 20-25kmp (even for Shatabdi)...so it take 30 - 45 mins to cover the distance between the 2 stations.
3....
more... During the time one train leaves LKU for HDW , for next 30-40mins trains from both ends are made to wait on HDW or LKU.... this is not good for long term as no. of trains from Kumaon KGM/HDW/LKU will increase in coming yrs.
4. Similar condition is between HDW and KGM ( 6km... single line... 10-15km MPH... taking 16-25min on either direction... while other trains lie idle)
5. Both HDW and KGM have 3 short platforms only( only for 18-19 coach trains) with no loop line/ yard etc facility.
Growing demands for trains to northern/western /south Indian from these station...from either MB- (GZB-NZM)/(SRE-JAT ) route or ... BE.- (MTJ)/(LKO) route........ traffic is going to increase especially between LKU and KGM.
Last month , regional MP's held a meeting with GM (NER)..... but not one of them raised this issue.... its very silly .... people think in such short term goals ? :(
dear RFs, give your insights on the suggestion.
