On July 18th, the Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express derailed near Jhilahi in Gonda, with six coaches overturning. The accident resulted in four deaths and 25 injuries. Following the accident, rescue operations were initiated, and a CRS investigation was ordered. The investigation involved questioning officials and staff related to railway safety, security, signaling, engineering, mechanical, and traffic.
Train number 15904, departing from Chandigarh on the night of July 17th at 11:59 PM, was traveling at a speed of 90 kilometers per hour. It reached Gonda railway station at 2:25 PM on July 18th and left at 2:28 PM. The train derailed and overturned at 2:41 PM, between Motiganj and Jhilahi Bazaar, around 18 kilometers from Gonda headquarters. Of the train's 24 coaches, 14 derailed, including six AC coaches and two coaches following the engine.
