I find it weird that Lucknow is connected to Ayodhya via 3 Vande Bharat trains but not a single intercity. Only a simple passenger plies daily. The other alternatives are long distance trains in which reservation is basically impossible at last moment.
Atleast an Intercity train should run b/w Ayodhya and Lucknow [maybe running as AYC-CNB ICE to provide cheap and reliable connectivity]. It will benefit both middle class pax since ICEs have 2S, GN and CC .

There used to a Barabanki-Lucknow-Kanpur EMU system. The former BBK-LKO has zero dedicated EMUs now and latter, Lucknow - Kanpur, only 3 dedicated ones. It used to be more than twice this nos originally. This has led to overcrowding in other trains. Trains like Intercity or JBP-LJN Express now bear the extra load when this was originally carried by EMUs.
Let there be other intercity type trains from Lucknow to Jhansi in afternoon. This will have a different target audience. IMO departure at ayodhya can be beyond 1330 in such a way that hotel check out is at 1200 right, if it takes 8 hrs it should reach VGLB at 2130, still pax will be able to catch south bound trains. Those intercity type trains will take that load. Even if this comes, it will decongest the load on existing trains so doesn't matter even if its back to back.
Ayodhya to Lucknow is connected by 2 local/ice trains : 04203 and 04217.
also, for people traveling in gs coaches, there's many options, as most of the trains have high number of boarding and deboarding from Ayodhya region.
the 14236, 14854 and 19167 also start emptying from Lucknow, so seats are plenty from lko till Varanasi.

Ah yes, I missed 04217; that is a local train with a fast TT [though not always on time] but sadly it's a special and not regularized [unless extended it'll cease operations this month only I think].
